CARTIER SUES DONNA KARAN ‘DKNY’

It’s a very Donna Karan day. The New York designer is also getting sued by luxury French jeweler Cartier.
Cartier claims that the designer ripped off its “Tank” watch name, for the classic timepiece created in 1917.
“It is apparent that defendant’s use of the Cartier ‘Tank’ trademark in connection with watches is willful and intentional and done in willful disregard of Cartier’s rights,” the jewelry maker claims in papers filed in Manhattan federal court.
Cartier fears that consumers will be confused and assume that the Donna Karan watches are affiliated with Cartier.
Cartiers watchers cost upwards of $10,000 compared to the watch from Karan’s DKNY line which costs $115.

A watch from Karan’s DKNY line, called the Women’s Ion-Plated Tank Watch, costs a mere $115.
