Dior Homme Spring/Summer ‘08 collection ushered in a new day for the brand. Creative direction was under Kris Van Assche for the first time with former director Hedi Slimane exiting after last seasons collection. But Dior Homme didn’t stray too far as Assche is a former assistant of Slimane.

With only 2 1/2 months to prepare Assche, 31, choose to fore-go the theatrics of a runway presentation and instead focus on the clothes. Assche had retreated and delved into the world of Christian Dior to stay grounded in the heritage of the label. The looks were presented in a static presentation.

A monochrome black and white color palette with some gray was used. The collection relied on formal dress looks.

Extreme pleats on pants let them balloon into voluminous silhouettes. This was contrasted with shrunken, flat-front pants hitting above the ankle

Jackets were cut in ways that placed satin in various places. Satin lapels were cut in a broad manner extending out to the shoulders.

Ubiquitous white shirts were distinguished by attention to detailing.

With the S/S 08 collection Assche came into his own instead on a Sliman copycat.
